Fr. Luhmer's Memoirs Released (in German!)

Greetings from Joachim Kardinal Meisner, Archbishop of Cologne (Translated from German) , follows:

ケルン　 2009 年 11 月

  ルーメル神父様を敬愛して止まない日本の皆さまへ

  ミウラの聖人、聖ニコラウスの祝日に、 93 歳の長い人生を振り返って色々と思い出など皆様がたはお互いに今日、お話しし合うことでしょう。ルーメル神父様の故郷の司教として、私は神様への奉仕者としてのルーメル神父様に、長生きさせて下さっているお恵みに深く感謝しています。皆様も、ルーメル神父たちが感謝の共同ミサを捧げている時に、同じ事を思われ感謝されたことでしょう。

今日の、この集りでは、ご本、『自叙伝』が紹介されますが、私もこの本の刊行には色々と関わりました。私が日本を訪れたとき、又はルーメル神父様が故郷に戻られた折に、彼の波乱万丈な出来事を大変印象深く聞き、そして引退したときそのような出来事を書くことをお願い致しました。

　私はルーメル神父様が私の願いを聞き入れてくれ、モール神父様の助けの下に、私の依頼を引き受けて下さって本当に感謝しています。皆様はこの本をご欄になって、お 2 人が取って下さった苦労を感じられるでしょう。

ルーメル神父様に心からのお祈りと神様の祝福を送り、これからもお元気で過ごされることを祈っています。

主において敬愛する皆さまへ

主イエズス・キリストの 2009 年ご降誕祭おめでとうございます。この 1 年間神さまから頂いた苦しいことも、楽しいことも感謝致します。思えば、ベルリンの壁がくずれ、無神論的共産主義が崩壊 20 周年になりました。クリスマスの約束、つまり「心の良いひとには平和」への実現まで、まだほど遠い見通しですが、神さまの御摂理を信じて、すべて良い方向へ運んで下さることを信じております。来年の 2010 年は何が待ち構えているか分からないけれども、皆さまが健康に恵まれた年になるように祈ります。

上の写真 （参加者はあとでホテルニューオータニの写真が郵送されます） のように小生の Von Koeln nach Tokyo, Lebenserinerungen , Bachem 出版社が出版されました。最初から最後までドイツ語ばかりですが、ドイツ語を勉強して読んで下さい。さらに数年かかって準備してきたモンテッソーリの『カルフォルニア・レクチャー』もサンパウロ社から出ます。これは日本語なので、楽しみにして読んで下さい。

小生の健康状態は最新の血液検査ではヘモグロビンが 8.8 で、 PSA が 00.1 ということで、神さまにそして皆さまのお陰によると感謝しています。そしてどうぞ来年が、皆さまのご家族の方々に多幸でありますように心から祈っております。

Fr. Luhmer and Agnes Chan

Fr. Luhmer had a remarkable 93rd birthday on September 28, surrounded by his friends, colleagues, and students. Although he was in the hospital a few days earlier, he recovered fast and put on his armor of enthusiasm and humor to enjoy his birth day.

In mid-September, he was visited by Sophia alumna Ms Agnes Chan, a celebrity in Japan. Agnes was a student of Sophia University when Fr. Luhmer was a dominating presence at Sophia. Although she was born in Hong Kong, her cute songs and numerous TV appearances endeared her to the Japanese population even while she was a student. She was the MC when the late Pope John Paul II visited Japan and addressed the youth at the Budoh kan. Ever alert to spread a message of hope, she is even now active in many social activities (such as preventing the sexploitation of children) . She is also a prolific author and speaker. 今日の取材の中で、モンテッソーリ（教育方法）の理念を幼児教育だけでなく、高齢者のケアーに広めたい話を聞きました。とっても勉強になりましたよ。モンテッソーリ教育を長年やってこられた先生たちとお会いしましたよ。メーメル神父さんと江島正子先生です。モンテッソーリは子供の力を信じて、人と比べず、ひとり、ひとりのペースで学ばせるという考え方です。高齢者の介護の時に、なんでもやってあげてしまうのではなく、その人、その人の力を信じて、マイペースで日常を過ごせてあげるのはとっても素敵なことですね。現実になるといいですね。

今日は新政権が発足して、これから日本はどう変わるのかが楽しみですね。新しい時代の幕開けですね。ドキドキです。同じ目標に向かっている方もたくさん入閣しましたね。世界の子供たちにとっては、とっても期待できる内閣です。

明日は兵庫県の姫路市にまります。講演会です。楽しみです。がんばります。今日は原稿を書かないといけないですが、明日早いので・・・。お風呂に入って、体の調子を見ますね。

Fr. Luhmer's Christmas 2008 Message Urbi et Orbi

Dear Friends

Congratulation on the Feast of the newborn Savior, the Son of God, Our brother Jesus Christ! I hope and I pray that you and your families may enjoy this Central Feast of our faith in good health.

Certainly dark clouds obstruct our view on a clear sky: War in Iraq and elsewhere, international financial crisis, the news on typhoons, hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, we need a strong faith to believe that He has his own intentions with mankind based on love for man.

There are also bright lights shining in a world illumined by the Star of Bethlehem. Globalism has created possibilities for men and women to assist each other on a global range, as for instance the German Lenten drive of MISEREOR, together with the Protestant action BROT FUER DIE WELT etc... The great event in the Catholic Church of Japan was the beatification ceremony held for the first time in Japan (Nagasaki) of the 188 martyrs on November 24.

As my own activity here is concerned, you can see on the picture above, that I celebrated my 92, birthday with a number of friends at St. Ignatius in Tokyo. Cardinal Meisner of my home diocese Cologne has prevented my gray brain cells from deterioration by giving me the home work of writing my MEMOIRS in German; they will be printed next year by BACHEM, Cologne. My Health: ever since I came here my hemoglobin count is above 10, cancer count PSA 0, 01, agoraphobia cured, vein trouble not lethal.

Dear friends, I wish you a Happy New Year 2009. We pray that it will bring mankind closer to the Ideal of world peace. Thank you for your support of our work and Good bye!

Fr. Luhmer moved to the Loyola House Community in Kamishakujii, Tokyo, on November 19, 2007, accompanied by Fr. Mohr. He is cheerful and sociable as usual and wecomes visitors!
