Overview
Our detonation safety work focuses on prediction and mitigation of detonation hazards in hydrogen systems. We study deflagration-to-detonation transition (DDT), critical obstacle and geometry effects, and overpressure/ impulse loads on structures across practical operating ranges.
The lab combines instrumented shock tubes and detonation tubes with high-speed imaging and custom CFD to validate mitigation concepts including flame arrestors, venting strategies, and quenching layouts for industrial and research facilities.
